Before You Buy - The Glock 45 MOS

When it comes to handguns, the Glock brand has earned a reputation for reliability and performance. The Glock 45 MOS, a hybrid member of the Glock family that combines the slide length of the 19 with the frame of the 17, is no exception. In this article, we'll explore the key features, specifications, range performance, and pros and cons of the Glock 45 MOS. I recently picked one of these handguns up to use as a test platform for various video ideas including competition shooting, optics testing, and of course working on my shooting skills. Thus far it has been quite the exceptional firearm and quite adaptable to my needs, however, the Glock 45 MOS comes equipped with a range of features that make it a standout choice for some, but maybe not for all. So soday we’ll take a look at its specifications, features and quirks to see if it might be a good fit for you.

A lot of people wanted this specific configuration for its unique combination of the full size Glock 17 grip/frame, with the shorter, lighter and precieveably less snappy Glock 19 slide and barrel length. The Glock 45 was so hotly requested and liked that several law enforcement agencies across the United States have already adopted it as a standard sidearm. The addition of the MOS or Glock Modular Optic system simply means you don’t have to have your slide milled for a specific optic style, but rather can use the MOS adapter plate system to attach pretty much any type of reflex sight to your Glock. However, that might be a downside if you’re dead set on running this pistol in a single configuration.

Glock 45 MOS Range Performance

The Glock 45 MOS excels at being a pistol that shoots well. The Glock 34, which is a long slide 9mm glock generally meant for competition, is probably the only other Glock I have actually enjoyed shooting for extended periods of time. Combined with the new RMR HD from Trijicon, the pistol is a joy to shoot at the range whether you’re running drills, or competing in an event like USPSA or Steel Challenge.

While Glock drops an improved Glock Marksman Barrel into the Glock 45 MOS, the trigger sadly still remains the same predictable yet spongy Glock OEM trigger. At this point I’m not really even upset by it anymore, it’s something I’ve gotten used to shooting with quite well, but it would be nice to try out one of Glock’s performance triggers, or even see the triggers start making their way into factory production Glocks.

One thing that the Glock 45 MOS does not do well is conceal. The pistol has the exact opposite configuration that you’d want in a concealed carry pistol, that being a shorter slide and a longer frame. The frame being the most difficult angle of a handgun to concel means that the Glock 45 is pretty much reserved for range use, competition use, or open carry in Glock 45 holster around the home or farmstead. Additionally, the Glock 45 might be a bit larger but for those seeking a nightstand home defense gun, the Glock once again can accept lights, lasers, and optics making it an ideal choice for those wanting a hmose defense handgun.

FAQ - Glock 45 MOS

The Glock 45 MOS is a 9mm pistol that combines the full-size Glock 17 frame with the shorter Glock 19 slide. The MOS (Modular Optic System) version allows direct mounting of red dot optics using adapter plates without permanently modifying the slide.
Not ideally. The Glock 45 MOS features a full-size grip, which is the hardest part of a handgun to conceal. While the shorter slide helps with comfort, the longer grip tends to print under clothing. It is better suited for duty use, range shooting, home defense, or open carry.
The Glock 45 MOS uses adapter plates that allow mounting of popular red dot optics such as Trijicon RMR, RMR HD, Holosun, and other reflex sights. The MOS system provides flexibility without slide milling.
Yes. It features the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB), which improves accuracy compared to earlier Glock barrels. It performs well in range drills, competition shooting, and defensive scenarios.
The best holster for a Glock 45 MOS depends on its intended use. An OWB holster is ideal for range use and open carry, while a duty holster is better suited for professional or tactical applications. If you are using a weapon-mounted light, a light-bearing holster is required.
Glock 45 MOS FALCO holsters are commonly available in leather, Kydex, nylon, hybrid designs, and carbon fiber. Leather offers classic comfort and durability, Kydex provides rigid retention and consistent reholstering, nylon delivers lightweight and breathable carry, and hybrid holsters combine a structured shell with a comfortable backing. Carbon fiber holsters offer premium strength with reduced weight. The best material depends on whether you prioritize comfort, retention, durability, or duty performance.
A concealed carry shoulder bag or crossbody bag can be a practical option for carrying a Glock 45 MOS, especially if it is equipped with a red dot or weapon light.
When selecting a light-bearing holster for the Glock 45 MOS, the holster must be molded for the exact combination of firearm and weapon light. Retention in light-bearing holsters is typically designed around the light body rather than the trigger guard, so choosing the correct light model is essential for safety and proper fit.
