How To Pick The Right Chest Holster

In the world of outdoor adventure and tactical preparedness, choosing the right gear can make all the difference. This story is about how I navigated the myriad options at Falco Holsters to find the perfect chest holster that matched my unique needs, blending functionality, comfort, and style seamlessly.

The Quest Of Chest Gun Holster Begins

As an avid outdoorsman and a tactical gear enthusiast, I was in search of a chest gun holster that could keep up with my requirements. I was looking for a pistol holster chest that could work well as a concealed chest holster too, since open carry is not allowed everywhere. I carry a full-size 1911 while in the wilderness and I wanted my holster to fit perfectly with its thin & long design. My journey led me to Falco Holsters, renowned for their handcrafted, custom & high-quality holsters. However, the decision wasn't as straightforward as I had anticipated. I was faced with a series of choices & key considerations.

Key Considerations in Choosing the Right Chest Holster:

Material Choice: Leather vs. Nylon

Light-Bearing Capability

Special Needs for Revolvers with Scopes

Ergonomics and Accessibility

Style or design of chest holster for pistol

Chest Rig Pistol Holster

Let's get through them one by one.

Leather Chest Holster vs. Nylon Chest Holster

The first parameter was the material. Falco offers 1911 chest holsters made of either premium full-grain Italian leather or durable nylon. Leather appealed to me for its classic look, comfort & extra options in the configuration, promising a pistol chest holster that would age beautifully over time. Nylon, on the other hand, offered lightweight durability and resistance to the elements, the possibility to remove thumb-break & featured a security flap, making it the ideal military chest holster for rugged outdoor use.

Leather Chest Holster

After much deliberation, I leaned towards leather. The appeal of a material that would develop a unique patina over time, telling the story of my adventures, was too enticing to pass up. Plus 1911 & leather is a timeless combination & Falco's leather chest holsters include a magazine pouch or rounds holder attached to the harness, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

Light Bearing Chest Holster

The next consideration was whether my handgun was equipped with a light. Fortunately, Falco caters to the modern shooter's needs with a light-bearing leather chest rig. Chest rig holster D113 might be crucial for low-light adventures, ensuring that your gear is always battle-ready, day or night. Opting for a chest holster for 1911 that can be custom-made for over 50 tactical lights & possibility to be RDS ready means you wouldn't have to compromise on your tactical setup. I knew I needed this feature since I have Steamlight TLR7A attached to the accessory rail.

Light Bearing Chest Holster

The Revolver Chest Holster

All chest holsters for pistols made by Falco Holsters can be custom-made for revolvers too, however, there are two special & very specific models that are suitable solely for revolvers equipped with a scope.

Chest Holster For Revolver

Although my primary handgun is not a revolver, the fact that Falco offers specialized chest holsters for revolvers equipped with scopes impressed me. It showcases our commitment to catering to a wide range of needs and preferences. This feature, available in both nylon and leather models, ensures that those with scoped revolvers aren't left behind in their search for the perfect chest holster. Additionally, the leather chest holster revolver has a scope cut reinforced with 0,08-inch thick American Kydex which makes it a very rigid & reliable piece of equipment.

Ergonomics and Accessibility Of Chest Rig Holsters

Falco's thoughtful design of concealed carry chest holsters extends to the placement and security features for your handgun. Leather holsters sit slightly lower than usual chest holsters, making the draw easier and more ergonomic—a critical factor in high-stress situations. The securement via a forefinger strap adds an extra layer of safety without compromising quick access.

For the nylon tactical chest holsters, the flap with a fork buckle and a classic thumb break underneath offers high security for your firearm & better protection against the elements. The ability to fold the flap behind the gun & remove the velcro thumb-break for a more ready state appealed to me as someone who values quick and easy access to their firearm.

Nylon Chest Holster

Both leather & nylon chest holsters were suitable for hiking, hunting, or any other outdoor adventures. All of them were good as a concealed carry chest holster when under the coat or winter jacket, however, nylon does concealment a little bit better thanks to the lack of a magazine pouch & additional flap.

Best Chest Holster: The Decision

After considering all these parameters, my choice became clear. I opted for a leather gun chest holster D113 custom-made for my 1911 & Streamlight TLR7A. This gun chest holster model promised not only the aesthetic and tactile pleasure of leather but also the practicality of an included magazine pouch, underlay for the protection of my firearm, and accessibility. The decision to choose leather was also influenced by the fact that I own a 1911 & let's be honest, there is no better match in the holster world than a 1911 in a good old chest holster 1911.

Reflections On The Chest Handgun Holster Journey

Choosing the right chest holster from Falco Holsters was more than just a purchase. It was a journey. A journey that taught me the importance of understanding my needs, the conditions I would face, and how the right gear could enhance my experience. The leather chest holster from Falco not only met my expectations but exceeded them, offering a perfect blend of functionality, comfort, and style.

chest pistol holster for hiking

In the end, the right chest holster wasn't just about the material, the light-bearing capability, or even the specific needs of a scoped revolver. It was about finding a piece of gear that felt like an extension of myself, one that would be by my side through countless adventures, always ready, always reliable. With Falco Holsters, I found just that—a partner for the journey ahead.
