History of the Stacatto Brand

Strayer-Tripp Inc., also known as STI International, has a fascinating background rooted in competitive shooting and making better guns. It all began in 1980 when Virgil Tripp and Sandy Strayer, both big names in the shooting world, teamed up. They started by crafting really good parts for 1911-style pistols, catering to folks in competitive shooting who wanted top-notch gear. STI made a big splash in the 1990s when they started selling complete pistols built on their own custom frames and slides.

These guns stood out for being super accurate, reliable, and having cool new designs. They became a hit among competitive shooters at events like USPSA and IPSC, becoming known for being some of the best guns out there. One major thing STI did was create a modular frame for their guns. This meant shooters could easily change and customize their firearms however they wanted. It was a game-changer in the gun world, letting people make their guns fit them perfectly. As the years went on, STI kept making their guns even better, using the latest tech and making their manufacturing processes top-notch. Then, in 2018, STI stepped up their game by introducing the Stacatto brand. Stacatto focused on making guns that were even more precise, reliable, and innovative, aiming to push the limits of what handguns could do. Strayer-Tripp Inc. and its evolution into STI International have truly shaped how competitive shooting works and set new standards for what people expect from quality handguns. They've left a lasting mark on the firearms industry through their expertise, new ideas, and dedication to making great guns.

Range Performance of Staccato P 2011

As someone who has had the pleasure of shooting the Stacatto P 2011, I can confidently say that this handgun is one of the best I've ever used in terms of range performance in a USPSA or a two-gun style competition environment. When compared to other guns I've shot, such as the Glock 19 and the Sig Sauer P320, the Stacatto P 2011 truly stands out. Mostly because its the only single-action pistol out of the bunch which is a relatively new experience for me when it comes to competition guns.

One of the most notable differences between the Stacatto P 2011 and these other guns is the accuracy. With the Stacatto, I found that I was able to consistently hit my targets at greater distances than I could with either the Glock or the Sig Sauer. The Dawson Precision Perfect Impact front sight on the Stacatto made it easy to acquire my targets quickly and precisely.

The addition of a Leupold Delta Point Pro to the mix gives this pistol not only standing as a top competitor in the Carry Optics division, but it also makes the pistol look great!

Another factor that sets the Stacatto P 2011 apart is its recoil control. The RecoilMaster dual spring recoil system did an excellent job of reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip, which allowed me to get back on target much more quickly between shots. In comparison, I found that the recoil on the Glock and Sig Sauer was noticeably more pronounced, which made it more difficult to stay on target. However, given that both of those handguns mostly serve as duty and combat handguns, I can understand that Stactatto’s purpose-built design just does it better by virtue of specialization.

Of course, the Stacatto P 2011 does have its downsides, as all guns do. For one, it is a bit heavier than some other competition handguns, which may not be ideal for users who prefer lighter guns. Additionally, some shooters may find the trigger pull weight to be too light, which could pose a safety risk if they're not accustomed to it. That being said, with a bit of practice and patience, these issues can be easily overcome.

Is Staccato P Worth It?

Deciding whether a Stacatto P is worth the investment involves considering both its price and features in relation to the specific shooting sports you're interested in. The Stacatto P comes with a premium price tag, but it's backed by cutting-edge technology and a reputation for exceptional performance and the best features available to the competitive shooting community. If you're deeply engaged in competitive shooting disciplines like USPSA, Multi-Gun or IPSC where split-second accuracy and reduced recoil are crucial, the Stacatto P's features, such as its compensated barrel and advanced recoil system, could significantly enhance your performance especially when compared to stock pistols. For serious competitors aiming for top-tier results, the precision and reliability of the Stacatto P might justify its higher cost, as it can give a competitive edge in these demanding sports.

However, if your shooting interests are more casual or diverse, and you engage in a range of shooting activities from target practice to recreational shooting, the decision might hinge on whether the specific features of the Stacatto P align with your needs. While it's undeniably a high-performance firearm, its specialized design optimized for competitive shooting might be more than what's necessary for occasional or non-competitive use. In such cases, there might be other options offering a better balance of features and prices for a broader range of shooting activities.

Ultimately, the decision to invest in a Stacatto P depends on your shooting goals, the level of competition you engage in, and whether the specific features align with your shooting preferences. If precision, reduced recoil, and top-tier performance are essential for your competitive endeavors, the Stacatto P could indeed be a worthwhile investment despite its price. Taking that into account, sometimes it’s just nice to own a nice piece of hardware that’s fun to shoot at the range. If you’ve got the cash to make that kind of purchase, more power to you!

Closing Thoughts

If you're looking for a high-quality competition handgun, the Stacatto P 2011 is definitely worth considering. Its exceptional accuracy, reliability, and speed make it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to compete at a high level. While it may be more expensive than some other competition handguns, the Stacatto P 2011's features make it a worthwhile investment. Just be prepared to spend some time getting used to it if you're used to shooting other types of handguns.
